“The Dart” – Solo Exhibition by Jacqueline Duncan at Coombe Gallery, Dartmouth

  • 12 May 2025

Jacqueline Duncan is pleased to announce her upcoming solo exhibition, “The Dart”, opening on 23 May 2025, 6–8 pm at Coombe Gallery, Dartmouth, Devon.

This exhibition features a carefully curated selection of new and recent works that reflect Duncan’s profound connection with the River Dart, which flows past her home in Devon. The river has become both an inspiration and a metaphor in her practice, its constant presence shaping the themes and textures of her work.

Jacqueline Duncan’s work offers a meditative, tactile mapping of the River Dart, transforming its cartographic outline into a textured, contemplative surface. Through thousands of meticulously placed pins, alongside painting, drawing, and mixed media, she explores the fluidity and ever-changing nature of water — from its motion to the shifting play of light. Her pieces evoke memory, gesture, and time, creating a visual rhythm that mirrors the subtle interplay of stillness and movement she encounters daily. Echoing traditions of feminised labour and challenging scientific mapping, Duncan turns geography into a poetic, sensory landscape — one that invites quiet attention and rewards prolonged looking.

“The river is everything to me. I watch it every day. I sail on it, live beside it, and it constantly teaches me something new about stillness and motion, presence and change.” — Jacqueline Duncan
