Brushstrokes of contrast: urban studio, rural inspiration

  • 21 April 2024

Throughout my life I have lived in both the countryside and metropolises. My studio in London sits alongside the canal and it provides me with a complete contrast to the peaceful countryside of Devon.

In north London I am surrounded by houseboats, bustling pedestrians, rumbling trains, bobbing mallards and moorhens.

Last weekend was spent here working on painting drawings for my upcoming exhibition at the Bankside gallery in June.

These mixed media works commence with liquid ink and acrylic painting and then are worked on with ink drawing as I seek to capture the essence of the water and the rhythmic movements caused by passing canal boats. With this series of work I aim to convey the fluidity and perpetual dance-like quality of the waves.
